Offense rains in Warhawk win

The offense rained down in Malone Stadium as the Warhawks soundly defeated Texas Southern 58- 0 in the ULM home opener. Rainy weather kept fans away from the stadium, as just 9,330 fans attended the contest, but those in attendance saw ULM write in the statistical history books in the win in the second largest margin of victory.

"I was excited about the way we came out and played in the first half," Head Coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "Defensively we did some great things and keeping them out of the end zone for the first time since doing it at Florida International in 2006."

Solid defensive play held the Tigers to just 28 yards of total offense in the first half, while the offense racked up 379 yards. Leading the charge were juniors Frank Goodin and Trey Revell. Goodin had a career performance night, as the West Monroe, La. native tallied 105 yards and a career high three rushing touchdowns, moving him into a 10th place tie for career rushing scores. Goodin's score in the first quarter pushed his streak to three consecutive games with a rushing score.

"My goal is always to come in and run hard," Goodin said. "I feel like we executed in each area of the game, the defense gave us good field position all night, and most importantly the offensively line was blocking well all night."

Revell set a new consecutive completion record with 15, dating back to last week's season opener at #2 Texas. Revell's 15 replaces the prior record of 11 by Wyndell Lowery in 1991. Revell also replaces ULM great Doug Peterson's game completion record as he completed 89.5% (17-19).

"In the second half I felt that we lost some intensity, but then regained it," Weatherbie said. This was true as the ULM offense was limited to just 213 yards in the final half of play.

Back-up quarterback Cody Wells entered the game at the 3:05 mark in the third quarter to take his first career snap at the quarterback position. Wells would then connect with tight end Alvin Jordan at 5:39 remaining in the game to pick up his first career passing touchdown. The score was also Jordan's first career TD reception.

"It was good to get in there and get my feet wet, I missed my first couple of passes due to nerves, but the line blocked well and allowed me to get one in the end zone at the end of the game," Wells said of his first career snap at the quarterback position.

ULM will hit the road next week as they head west to face the Sun Devils of Arizona State. Kick off is scheduled for 9pm Central time and will feature a live in game chat exclusively on WarhawkReport.com.
