Boehme named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss freshman punter Peter Boehme was named the Conference USA special teams player for his effort against Kansas last weekend in a vote of league media members and announced Monday.

Boehme helped the Golden Eagles win that honor for the second-straight week after Freddie Parham won the award following the Virginia game a week ago.

Boehme averaged 45.6 yards per punt on five attempts at then No. 19 Kansas. He added a season-long 62 yarder in the second quarter. Boehme has placed 11 of his 17 punts this season inside the 20 and is averaging 37.1 yards per punt in 2009. Kansas recorded zero return yards for the day.

Houston quarterback Case Keenum won the offensive accolade, while Cougars defensive tackle David Hunter won the defensive award.

Southern Miss (3-1) returns to action this Thursday when they play at UAB in Birmingham. Game time is set for 7 p.m., and can be seen on CBS College Sports (Channel 735 on Comcast Digital Cable in Hattiesburg) and heard on the affiliates of the Southern Miss Radio Network.
