If your favorite team is looking for a quarterback, your team's coaches -- not surprisingly -- need to head to California, Florida and Texas.
Exactly half -- 60 of 120 -- of the starting quarterbacks at FBS schools are from those three states. In addition, of the top 40 high school quarterbacks in the nation this recruiting cycle, almost half (18) hail from that trio of states.
Of the current FBS starting quarterbacks, California has the most with 23. Texas is second with 19 and Florida third with 18. Pennsylvania (eight) and Georgia and Ohio (seven each) round out the top five.
Last season, California, Florida and Texas combined for 54 starting quarterbacks.
In this season's high school ranks, California has seven of the top 40, followed by Florida with six and Texas with five. Last year, 18 of the nation's top 40 were from those three states, with California having eight, Texas six and Florida four.
Here is a look at this season's FBS starters (* -- see notes at bottom):
Bowling Green: Schilz is injured, but he will regain the starting job when healthy.
BYU: Heaps will make his first start this week; former starter Riley Nelson (who went to high school in Utah) is out for the rest of the season.
Houston: Broadway will make his first start this week; former starter Case Keenum (who attended high school in Texas) is out for the rest of the season.
Middle Tennessee: Dasher has been suspended by the NCAA for the first four games but will start when he returns; the two quarterbacks who have made starts for MTSU this season are Logan Kilgore and Jeff Murphy (both from California).
New Mexico: Holbrook is injured, but he will regain the starting job when healthy.
North Texas: Dodge will make his first start this week; former starter Nathan Tune (who went to high school in Texas) is out for the rest of the season.
Rice: Fanuzzi is starting because of an injury to Taylor McHargue (who attended high school in Texas), but Fanuzzi seems likely to keep the job even when McHargue returns.
Utah: Wynn is injured, but he will regain the starting job when healthy.
Wake Forest: Price is starting because of an injury to Ted Stachitas (who attended high school in Florida), but it's unknown who will start when Stachitas is healthy.
