Report: Finch to transfer

Former Warren Central standout Jerimy Finch has been released from the University of Florida and will transfer to another school, the Gainesville Sun is reporting. Sources have indicated that school will likely be Indiana.

Finch, who was the top-ranked safety in the 2007 class, officially committed to UF the night before National Signing Day last year, dropping his pledge to IU in the process.

At Florida, he reportedly struggled to learn Urban Meyer's defense. He was moved from defensive back to linebacker because the Gator coaching staff didn't think he had the speed to play safety in the SEC. Finch also reportedly had issues with making grades. He would not have been academically eligible to play in the fall, according to The Sun.

He played in three games as a true freshman linebacker but injured his knee in a win over Tennessee and was lost for the season. He made a full recovery and was expected to compete for the starter's job at outside linebacker during fall camp.

Finch helped lead Warren Central to an unprecedented four consecutive state titles. Before his senior season, he committed to Michigan but had a change of heart after a visit to Bloomington during January of 2007. Citing a want to play close to home and remain with his teammates - IU commits Jeff Boyd and Andrew McDonald - Finch dropped his pledge to UM and gave it to Terry Hoeppner.

Finch would later commit to Florida after being offered a scholarship by Meyer, who said he learned of Finch from reading a Web site.

A call and an e-mail to Finch have yet to be returned.

Peegs.com will have more on the story as it develops.
