Notes: Lettered four times in basketball as a North Carolina prep before becoming the first athlete in his school's 40-year program to earn a Division I scholarship. Recruited as a defensive lineman and redshirted in 2006 as a defensive end. Moved to defensive tackle and saw limited action in 10 games in '07 (wore jersey No. 94), notching seven tackles, one for loss and a forced fumble. Missed '09 spring practice with an Achilles injury. Appeared in all 14 games in '08 - began the season as a reserve tight end (wore jersey No. 89) before transitioning to tackle in November (48 total snaps). Manned left tackle in 2009-10, starting all 27 games. Will turn 25 during his rookie season. Did not lift at the Combine because of a strained pectoral muscle.
Positives: Fairly light on his feet. Can pull, maneuver and adjust in space and shows the ability to hit a moving target. Appeared very athletic and light on his feet moving through positional drills at the Combine. Plays with good knee bend and balance. Alert to stunts and games. Smart with good work ethic and solid character. Has a passion for the game.
Negatives: Lacks the functional playing strength to knock defenders off the ball or factor into the run game. Marginal lower body strength to finish. Plays in a spread offense featuring huge splits. Not a tough or physical striker. Needs to spend more time in the weight room and get stronger. Overaged.
Summary: Converted tight end who bounced around between positions before settling at tackle, where he possesses intriguing length to be groomed as a developmental prospect.
